If you were to ask a group of consumers whether they prefer a soft or firm mattress, most of them will report that they rather the soft mattress. If you were to ask this same group of consumers which is better for their back, a soft or a firm mattress, most of them will incorrectly reply that the soft mattresses are better. Unfortunately, this is because many people wrongly equate the softness in a mattress with its potential for providing adequate support to them while sleeping.
Foam mattresses, on the other hand, have been gaining popularity within the last several years, as technology has become more advanced and research from studies have become more wide spread. On a whole, foam mattresses provide more support for the sleeper and provide more support for the body overall. Foam mattress provide a better sleep experience because the foam supports the body and relieves pressure points. The foam also absorbs shock and movement, so the movement of one person on the bed does not disturb the other person. Foam mattresses also have a longer life but are more costly to maintain.
The all foam daybed mattress is considered to be the softest and most comfortable. The foam makes them durable, as well as lighter than a cotton/foam futon. They are constructed by layering different types of foam, and can include medium density, high density, flat and convoluted or egg carton foams. Convoluted foam is commonly used in the top and bottom layers (so that it is on top when the mattress is flipped) because it helps evenly distribute the weight applied to the mattress. Foam daybed mattresses are also known for providing maximum support.
A tempurpedic mattress uses 5.3lb density memory foam whilst many doctors and chiropractors recommend you use one with a density of 4.0lb. But although they suggest one that is softer than a tempurpedic it still provides you with superior support and it can be a lot cheaper than tempurpedic mattresses.
