Part II: Island Cove Farm

It was extremely hot and we got drenched in sweat, by the the time we got to the Crocodile Farm ... but that didn't stop us to learn more on the wonders and beauty of God's creations.

The main hall of the Crocodile Farm has a mini-photo exhibit area with trivias to keep the visitors informed.

From the main hall, there's another door leading into the Crocodile Farm. The farm has a large number of Philippine Crocodiles in several pens segregated according to size.

Inside the Crocodile Farm, is the Monkey Island wherein few Maragondon monkeys were seen during our visit.

Island Cove Farm are open from 9am to 6pm. If you visit Island Cove and you have some questions regarding the tour and shuttle service, you may ask the people from the front desk.

Island Cove Farm

Around 9 am, we had to get ready for the Island Cove Farm tour. We got our two entrance tickets at the front desk. Tickets were sold P50.00 per person. A free shuttle service brought us at the wildlife sanctuary. It was an "On-Your-Own-Tour". The farm features Butterfly farm, turtle tribe, deer farm, snakes, horses and among others...

The Butterfly farm houses more than 20 species. Inside the large sanctuary are bulletin boards with information about the butterfly's nature and its ecological importance.

We also got a glimpsed of different species of birds like the Umbrella Cockatoo and Blue Gold Macaw.

and Ostriches - a fast -running African flightless bird with a long bare neck, small head and two-toed feet; largest living bird.

Fishing Village & Island Cove Cafe

We had our dinner at the Fishing Village.

Seafood and Filipino dishes are the house specialties. We ordered rice served on a "palayok" (clay pot) and Sinigang na baboy (pork in sour broth) and the delicious taste is simply irresistible, ahhh... We also had beef steak (small serving), and fried kangkong which is good but too oily. It cost us around P700.00 including two bottles of mineral water.

The place is overlooking the scenic horizon of Manila Bay. The sea breeze fans through the open-air interior. The split bamboo walls, the nipa roof, lamp holders, tiny light bulbs, and string of elongated pieces of wood & capiz window-like style adorning the ceiling all provided a homey atmosphere.

Highly acoustic performers from love songs to folk and country add entertainment to guests on the second level of the Fisherman's Deck.

There are also the floating huts of Fishing Village with varnished bamboo balustrade of the deck.

You can also catch bred fish like bangus, tilapia, pargo, lapu-lapu and have it cooked the way you want it. The fishing fee comes with a bamboo rod and bait. Fish caught is charged per weight. If fishing is not your forte, you can just order the fresh seafoods you want.

Fishing village is built over 10-foot-deep seawater and straddles a two-hectare fish pen teeming with all kinds of fish that thrive only in deep seawater.

The next day, we had our buffet breakfast at Island Cove Cafe.

Mostly traditional American and Continental breakfast entries were served such as breads, eggs (you can ask the chef to cooked the way you want it), slice hotdogs with sauce, fish fillet, roasted pork loin, ham, toasted bread with maple syrup and others. Desserts were pineapple and watermelon and choices of coffee and orange juice for drinks.

We had a little bit of everything on our plate. The foods were all presented well. But hubby didn't like that much and neither did I, because the food was cold and pretty tasteless.

Island Songs KTV

Island Songs KTV Lobby.

My hubby and I had such a great time, fun and bonding moments together. We sang our hearts out in English, Filipino and Chinese songs. It was a non-stop karaoke. :)

Rate is P150/person per hour and it's consumable. We ordered Cali 10 and Cali shandy, basket of fries, Super Supreme Pizza, and nachos with chesse and ham dip. They offer a wide variety of appetizers, sandwiches and drinks.

It cost us P600.00 for two hours use. We really enjoyed here.

The KTV has 32 private rooms accommodating from 2 people to 30. They are open 6pm to 2am on Sundays to Thursdays, and 1pm to 3am Fridays to Saturdays.

Island Cove Overview and Getting There

Island Cove Resort and Leisure Park in Cavite is the nearest island resort destination south of Metro Manila, Philippines. A sprawling 12-hectare island sanctuary offers, hotel, veranda and duplex/simple cottage type accommodation and complete facilities for relaxation, recreation, entertainment and fun.

Hubby and I decided to have an overnight weekend relaxation at Island Cove. And we made a reservation first. But we had a really hard time getting in touch with them. I sent 3 messages via e-mail but no one replied. I tried to call the Makati branch but no one answered. So, we decided to make a long distance call in Cavite. And thank God, that was the time we got our confirmed reservation.

Getting There:
Taxi cab was our first priority but two cabs refused to bring us there. So, we ended up taking a mini-bus ride from Zapote to Island Cove, which was a very fortunate choice. The bus fare is P20/pax only, very cheap and it's just 15-20 minute ride.

By the time we arrived, we went directly to the Front desk to get our room key.

The promo package that we got was P3,400.00, inclusive of overnight room accommodation for two, buffet breakfast for two and a free entrance at Oceana and use of hotel pool. We had the Veranda Supreme room, which was big enough for the two of us.

The air-conditioned room with private veranda is kinda old and simple, equipped with small cable tv, telephone, mini bar, private bathroom and safety deposit box.

Our room was on the seaside but I wasn't really impressed because there was tons of garbage along the seawall
.

Aside from Veranda rooms, there are also Duplex and Half-Duplex units equipped with the following: living and dining area with electric fan, air-conditioned bedrooms, cable tv, NDD/IDD telephone and refrigerator.

Simplex units have the same amenities as the Duplex cottages but with a big air-conditioned living and dining area. It's P5,800.oo on weekdays and P6,600.00 on weekends (rates as of March 2007).
