SM SCIENCE DISCOVERY CENTER

After we had our lunch at Gumbo Restaurant, the five of us proceeded to the 3,241-square meter SM Science Discovery Center which opened in October 19, 2007, the first of its kind in the Philippines, designed by US-based Leisure Entertainment Consultancy (LEC).

We were thrilled about this place since it's our first time to visit here. Hubby lined up and purchased our entrance tickets (P330.00/person), which includes One Planetarium Show. Kids below 24 inches are free of charge while Senior Citizens can avail the discounted rates.

Ticket Booth

Beside the ticket booth is the Scienterific store by Toy Kingdom, where you can stop and browse among their selection of toys and games for little ones and older kids alike.

This dashing robot welcomes us at the entrance

Next to the entrance is the Life Clock. You can also read some of the Fun Facts here.

While inside, we headed first to Image Port which showcases the latest in green screen technology. This allows guests to be superimposed on various backgrounds with the help of computer editing through available software programs. Photos may be downloaded and printed on specially themed Science Discovery Center merchandise.

We did have our picture taken with the entire planets as the background.

Next is the Media City, where we experienced the latest in software and trends in digital information and computer graphics, including the Gesture Xtreme Virtual Games. Kids and young at hearts could probably kill an hour here.

Alongside is the Transportation Nation where you can experience the operation power and technical process of vehicles. It has flight simulators and "build-a-car" kiosk stations.

Then there's the Grossology exhibit, which features the "Burp Man" and "Urine: the Game". Also, it offers games involving educational Q-and-A's about grossness and identifying different bodily odors. I find it almost amusing and downright yucky at the same time. :)

Then we went to the second floor...

Other exhibit include Spaceship Earth, which gave us a tour around the current condition of the massive vehicle called Earth.

Afterwards, we just contented ourselves with simply watching outside the Lego Mindstorms Robotics Center. Then we headed to Robot Inc. where some robots who have gone down in history are honored in the gallery's Wall of Fame.

You can also interact with remote-controlled robots like "Slambots" that can be maneuvered by joysticks.

Later on, we proceeded to Earthquake Simulator and lined up there. Visitors experience a feel of what tremors are like when up in a building during an earthquake. Next, we stopped by in the City Science.

Shortly we visited the Virtual Reef, where we met Mr. T, a digitized member of the deep sea community. There were some children eagerly asked him some questions and Mr. T enthusiastically answered them all.

Soon after, we went to Digistar Planetarium, my own personal fave. The dome-screened 158-seater complete with star filled and astronomical capabilities plus digital surround sound completely immersed us. It offers its viewers a three-dimensional view. It was a different experience for all of us.

You have to present your ticket to enter the planetarium. Seating is on a first come, first serve basis. To avoid distractions, once the show starts, no more guests will be allowed to enter.

Overall, SM Science Discovery Center is designed mainly for the kids of any age, though, parents and young at hearts may seemed to enjoy the place. This place is not that big but it's still pretty good for the whole family. Visitors could spend at least 2-3 hours here. To avoid crowds the best time to visit would definitely be during weekdays as few people visits here. Please keep in mind, food and drinks are not allowed inside the entire center.
